Read this before compressing
A browser cannot optimize the inside of a PDF the way desktop tools do. This tool redraws every page as an image and rebuilds the PDF, so:
- Text becomes part of the image: it can no longer be selected, searched or copied.
- Links, forms, bookmarks and attachments are not kept.
- PDFs that are mostly text, or already optimized, may not get smaller and can even grow. If that happens we tell you, and you keep your original.
Your PDF is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the text no longer selectable?
Because every page is converted to an image to reduce its size. Use this tool for scanned documents and photo-heavy PDFs, not when you need searchable text.
Why did my PDF get bigger?
Text-based PDFs are already very small. Turning their pages into images can make them larger, so in that case keep your original file.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The compression happens in your browser and nothing leaves your device.
