Click Start, allow access and speak: the level bar and waveform show right away whether your mic picks up sound.
Hear how you sound
Record 5 seconds of normal speech; it plays back right after so you can check volume, noise and echo.
Microphone details
Nothing is uploaded: audio is analysed and recorded only in your browser and is gone when you close the page.
Your browser asks for permission to use the microphone. Click Allow; without it no website can hear your mic.
Talk at a normal volume a hand’s width from the mic. The level bar should rise into the green and the waveform should move with your voice.
If you have a headset, a webcam and a laptop mic, switch devices in the list until you find the one that picks up your voice most clearly.
Click Record 5 s & play back. The clip plays straight away so you can hear low volume, hiss, echo or a muffled voice.
A healthy microphone keeps the bar near the bottom in silence and pushes it up clearly when you speak. If the bar never moves, no sound is reaching the browser: the mic may be muted on the headset, disabled in the system, or the browser may be using a different input. If the bar stays high even in silence, you are picking up background noise, a fan or cable interference.
The 5-second recording is the most honest check because you hear exactly what others will hear on a call. A voice that is too quiet needs more input gain in your sound settings; a distorted, clipping voice needs less gain or more distance from the mic.
The test works in any modern browser on desktop or mobile. Laptop mics usually sit next to the webcam or keyboard; on a headset, speak towards the boom or the inline remote. On phones the page uses the main mic, and Bluetooth headsets show up as a separate device when connected.
Your audio never leaves your device. Level analysis and recording happen inside the browser and nothing is sent to a server. Clicking Stop or closing the page releases the microphone.
Click Start mic test, allow access and speak. If the level bar rises and the waveform moves with your voice, the mic works. To judge quality, record 5 seconds and listen back.
Usually the permission is blocked in the browser or operating system, the mic is unplugged, or another app is using it. The error message on the page tells you which one and how to fix it.
Nothing is uploaded. Sound is analysed locally and the 5-second clip only lives in your browser’s memory until you close the page.
Plug in the headset, click Start mic test and pick the headset microphone in the device list. Speak near the boom or inline remote and watch the level bar.
Move the mic closer and raise the input level in your sound settings: on Windows under Sound > Input > Device properties, on macOS under System Settings > Sound > Input.
Yes. Open the page in Chrome or Safari on your phone, tap Start mic test and allow the microphone. Recording and playback work the same way.
