Camera details
Nothing is uploaded: the video only shows in your browser. Snapshots are saved straight to your device.
Your browser asks for permission to use the camera. Click Allow to see the image.
Make sure the picture is sharp and smooth. The panel shows the delivered resolution, the real frames per second and the camera’s maximum resolution.
If you have more than one camera, choose it in the list. Request 720p, 1080p or 4K to find out what your webcam can do.
Click Take snapshot to save a PNG to your device and compare quality at your leisure.
Resolution is the image size in pixels. An HD webcam delivers 1280 × 720 and a Full HD one 1920 × 1080. If you request 1080p and get 640 × 480, the camera, cable or USB port can’t sustain that mode, or another app has locked the camera to a lower one.
FPS is frames per second. The test shows two numbers: the real rate, counted frame by frame, and the nominal rate reported by the camera. Below 24 FPS video looks choppy. Low light is the most common cause, because the camera lengthens each frame’s exposure.
By default the preview is mirrored, like a mirror, because that is how we are used to seeing ourselves. People on the other end of a call see the un-mirrored image. Untick Mirror image to see what they see; snapshots are saved exactly as shown on screen.
Nothing leaves your device. The video is only displayed inside the browser, never recorded or uploaded, and the camera switches off when you click Stop or close the page.
Click Start camera and allow access. If your image appears and moves normally, the camera works. The panel also shows resolution and FPS.
Usually a privacy shutter is closed, a camera key has turned it off or another program is using it. Check those and click Start again.
After starting, read the Resolution field. To find the maximum, request 1080p or 4K; the Max resolution field shows the limit the camera reports.
Low light, a slow USB port or a resolution too high for the camera all reduce FPS. Add light or request a lower resolution and compare the real number.
No. The image stays in your browser. A photo is only created when you click Take snapshot, and it is saved straight to your device.
Yes. Open the page in your phone’s browser and tap Start camera. Use the camera list to switch between front and back cameras.
