What a metronome is for

A metronome keeps a steady pulse so you can practise in time. Start slowly, get the passage clean, then raise the BPM a few notches at a time.

Slow practice around 60 to 80 BPM builds accuracy; 100 to 120 BPM is a typical tempo for pop and rock; fast passages often sit between 140 and 180 BPM.

Time signatures and subdivisions

2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 count two, three or four beats per bar. 6/8 counts six eighth-note pulses with accents on beats 1 and 4.

Subdivisions add softer clicks between the beats (eighths, triplets, sixteenths) to help you feel faster rhythms.

Metronome FAQ

How do I use the tap tempo?

Tap the Tap button (or press T) in time with a song at least twice. The BPM is the average of your last taps, and it resets after two seconds of silence.

Is this metronome accurate?

Yes. Clicks are scheduled on the Web Audio clock instead of a JavaScript timer, so the beat does not drift even when the page is busy.

What is the first beat accent for?

The first beat of each bar plays a higher, stronger click so you always know where the bar starts. In 6/8 the fourth beat gets a lighter accent.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Open the page, turn silent mode off and press Start. Some browsers need a tap before they allow sound.

Does it remember my tempo?

Yes. The last BPM, time signature, subdivision and volume are saved in your browser only.
