Your recording

Why a browser voice recorder
Most online recorders upload your audio to a server. This one does not: the microphone stream is recorded by your browser, and trimming and conversion also run locally, so notes, interviews and voice messages stay private. There is nothing to install and no account or time limit imposed by the page.
Formats explained
- Original (WebM or OGG): the file exactly as the browser recorded it, small and fast. Safari records M4A. Some older players cannot open WebM.
- WAV: uncompressed and lossless, opens everywhere, but about 10 times larger than MP3. Best for editing.
- MP3: compressed 128 kbps, plays on every phone, car and player. The encoder is downloaded only the first time you choose MP3.
Tips for a clean recording
Stay about 15 cm (6 inches) from the microphone and speak across it rather than straight into it to reduce pops.
Record in a quiet, soft room and close windows; a headset microphone usually beats the laptop microphone.
Do a 5 second test first, play it back and then record the real take. You can also check your input with the Mic Test.
Voice recorder FAQ
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. Recording, playback, trimming and conversion all happen in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and the audio is gone when you close the page or press Delete.
Is there a time limit?
The page sets none. The practical limit is your device memory: an hour of speech is usually a few tens of megabytes.
Which format should I choose?
Use MP3 for sharing and playing anywhere, WAV if you will edit the audio, and Original if you just want the smallest, fastest file.
Why does the browser ask for microphone permission?
Browsers never let a page hear you without your consent. Allow it once for this site; you can revoke it from the lock icon in the address bar.
Can I trim the recording?
Yes. Drag Start and End after recording. Trimming the original format re-encodes in real time, while WAV and MP3 are instant.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, in current Chrome and Safari. Keep the screen on and the page open while recording, because some phones pause recording in the background.
