About URL encoding
URLs can only contain a limited set of characters. Anything else, such as spaces, accents or symbols like & and =, is replaced by a percent sign and two hex digits: a space becomes %20. Use URL part mode for a single value such as a query parameter, and whole URL mode for a complete address whose structure (:, /, ?, #) must stay intact.
Decoding reverses the process. Form submissions use + for spaces, so turn on the plus option when you work with that format. All conversions happen in your browser.
- 1 Choose Encode or Decode and the scope.
- 2 Type or paste your text: the result updates as you type.
- 3 Copy the result, or paste a URL to inspect its parameters.
