How to calculate a discount
To find the price after a discount, multiply the original price by (1 − discount ÷ 100). The amount you save is the original price minus the final price. With two stacked discounts the second one applies to the price that is already reduced, so 20% followed by 10% is 28% off in total, not 30%.
To find the discount percentage between two prices, divide the amount saved by the original price and multiply by 100. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Discount calculator: frequently asked questions
How do I calculate 30% off a price?
Multiply the price by 0.70. For example, 30% off 80 is 80 × 0.70 = 56, so you save 24.
Are two discounts the same as adding them?
No. Each discount is applied to the price left by the previous one, so the total is always a little smaller than the sum. 20% then 10% equals 28% off.
How do I find the discount percentage?
Subtract the sale price from the original price, divide by the original price and multiply by 100. If the original is 200 and the sale price is 150, the discount is 25%.
